We have a fantastic books-based competition this month with a whopping £45 worth of books to give away to one lucky reader.
With all the Cultural Olympiad events kicking off we are getting more than a little excited by the fantastic free arts extravaganza that is about to engulf the UK.
In a bid to do our bit to celebrate all things Great Britian, this month we are giving you the chance to get your hands on the finest short story writing of this fair isle and have a wonderful set of The Penguin Book of… Short Stories to give away to one lucky reader. Titles included in our biggest give-away to-date are:
The Penguin Book of English Short Stories
Celebrating the period from the middle of the 19th Century until the middle of the 20th each of these concise, evocative, subtle and satisfying stories is a little jewel, providing a small window into another world.
The Penguin Book of Irish Short Stories
A collection of 38 short stories covering many generations and moods of Irish writing – these mercurial, intoxicating, witty and sometimes sad stories range from Lady Gregory’s moving retelling of an ancient love story through to the extraordinary and prolific William Trevor.
The Penguin Book of Scottish Short Stories
In the 20 stories collected here you are given a multifaceted view of Scotland, the Scot and the Scottish short story. The stories range from Roman Britain, through the trials of those at home during the Second World War, to a country and people determined to assert their independence.
The Penguin Book of Welsh Short Stories
In these 24 short stories, written by Welsh men and women, for the most part about Welsh people, you are treated to depictions of valley and mountain, country and town, as well as offered powerful and moving insights into the nature of the people.
To be in with a chance of winning a little bit of the UK (and arguably to understand it a little better) simply email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and address and state UK Shorts in the subject.
The competition will close at 12noon on Wednesday 11 July, the winner will be selected at random and notified by email.
