Since my last update I have had to take a few steps back to review all things book exchange, the biggest thing being the unexpected price increases that have recently been imposed on us by the Royal Mail.  Although I can understand the theory behind their decision; increases of some postal charges by 20% have impacted heavily on our business model and as such I have had to remodel our pricing structure.  To accommodate these changes we now need to be a little more traditional and separate the postage costs out at the shopping basket.

From now on all our pre-loved books will cost £2.50 and you will be able to select and pay for your preferred postage at the checkout.  Postage costs will be calculated by weight and current charges are explained here

We thought while we were making these changes we would also give you the added benefit of being able to select first, second or recorded delivery on your orders.  We will then hot-foot it to the post-office with your lovingly wrapped packages so you can enjoy your reads as soon as possible.

Trade in books will continue to receive £1.00 account credit, this will remain completely flexible and you will be able to pay for both your new-to-you books and the postage with your accumulated credit.

Making these changes to our checkout basket also means that we can, at some point in the future; wait for it, ship overseas!  To take the book exchange international was always something we had planned so if this is something you would be interested in please do let us know.

This has been a hard decision to reach as I loved the one price fits all pricing structure but unfortunately the postal increase simply makes this unsustainable.  I hope you will all understand the reasoning behind these changes; if you have feedback on this (or on any aspect of the book exchange) I’d love to hear from you.
